Justin Carter, the bar entrepreneur who founded the Elbow Room chain, has taken a senior position within the managed pub arm of Fuller's, the London brewer and pub operator.

Carter has joined the group as one of two operations directors, reporting into managing director Simon Emeny.

He will oversee the group's 60 outlets in central London and manage four area managers, under the official title of operations director premium City.

Of the appointment, Emeny said: "Justin is an experienced operator, has a great brain and will bring a lot of good ideas to the business."

Carter succeeds Gary Anderson who is returning home to Australia after eight years with Fuller's.

Fuller's new recruit is still a shareholder in Wallace & Co, the cafe-restaurant business in Putney he set up with Gregg Wallace, the Masterchef presenter.
