Greene King has sold the former Hardys and Hansons Kimberley Brewery in Nottinghamshire for an undisclosed sum.

Greene King acquired Hardys and Hansons for around £270m in 2006 and shut the brewery at the end of that year.

Leicester-based Alif Group bought the site on Monday, which includes two residential properties, ahead of an auction due to take place. It paid more than the guide price of £1.25m.

Contracts were exchanged on Monday night and the deal is due to complete in the new year.

"This brings to an end a period of uncertainty for the commercial brewery site, and we hope that the new owners can redevelop the area to the benefit of the local community," said Greene King group property director Ken Millbanks.

Fourteen residential properties at Kimberley, which formed part of the Hardys and Hansons brewery estate were sold at auction for an undisclosed sum.
