Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) has sold 10 former Lakota bars at the centre of a legal tussle with a Bristol nightclub over ownership of the name.

The pub operator, which had eleven Lakota bars, said it had rebranded them and disposed of 10 as part of its strategy to move away from operating wet-led outlets in favour of building its food business.

Lakota nightclub in Bristol, opened in 1992, successfully challenged M&B's use of the name, and a settlement was achieved six weeks ago.

A spokesman for M&B added: "All matters in dispute between Lakota Limited and Mitchells & Butlers plc have been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties and all legal actions between and among the parties have been discontinued."

The remaining M&B Lakota continues to trade as an unbranded outlet.

Last month the pub company revealed plans to open at least 120 sites next year as part of its development strategy.
