The British Beer & Pub Association has parted company with its director of communications, Mark Hastings. Hastings stepped down from the role on Friday, the group said.

"After more than a decade with the association, I feel the time is right to move on," said Hastings.

"During my time in the industry I have worked on many interesting and challenging issues and with many fantastic people, whom I would like to thank for their help and support over the years."

He added he was "looking forward to a break over Christmas and spending some time enjoying being a dad to my kids".

Hastings said he would be "pursuing some new public affairs opportunities" in the New Year.

Brigid Simmonds, the BBPA's chief executive, said: "I would like to place on record the association's thanks to Mark for the considerable contribution he has made to enhancing the industry's profile, positioning and reputation in his role as director of communications.

"We would like to convey our very best wishes to him as he moves on to pursue other opportunities."
