Licensees ready for British Pub Week boost
British Pub Week kicks off on Saturday — creating an opportunity for licensees to increase footfall for Halloween and the following week, including Bonfire Night.
Battlesteads, in Wark-on-Tyne, Northumberland, is planning to get the most out of the week, starting with a spooky celebration this Saturday.
The Morning Advertiser's Great British Pub of the Year 2010 will offer customers Halloween-themed ales such as Hobgoblin, Blond Witch and Devil's Elbow.
Next Monday the pub is running an At The Heart Day, where senior citizens' lunches will be priced lower than usual — at £5.50 for three courses.
The pub is also hosting a family-themed Grub To Gastro Day next Tuesday with special offers on two courses (£18.50) and three courses (£23.50).
"Bookings are going really well for our gastro day," said owner Richard Slade.
"We are taking part because it's time that we regained the role that the pub should, and has traditionally played, in the community.
"The more pubs that get involved, the more interest it will create."
British Pub Week chairwoman Inez Ward said: "This is a high-profile national campaign with trade, parliamentary, celebrity and media support. We would urge licensees to utilise this for the benefit of their pubs."
BII (British Institute of Innkeeping) chief Neil Robertson said: "All shades of opinion are involved in the week — there is nothing political."
A Punch Taverns spokesman said the company has emailed its licensees about British Pub Week. The event has been promoted by business relationship managers.
The spokesman added: "We wish everyone a happy British Pub Week."
