The Publican is getting quizzical in the latest stage of our fundraising drive for the charity WaterAid.

We have teamed up with Wetherspoons to host a mega pub quiz at the company's pub, the Knights Templar in Chancery Lane, London.

A host of pub companies, licensees and invited guests will go head to head in a battle for bragging rights at the pub on October 25.

By asking for £100 for teams of five to enter - as well as holding a raffle and other fundraising initiatives on the night - we hope to add thousands more to the WaterAid pot.

Caroline Nodder, Publican editor, said: "Pub quizzes are a great way of bringing people together in a fun but competitive environment.

"We hope our own effort will be a great night for people as well as a huge fundraiser for WaterAid."

Already this year we have encouraged hundreds of pubs to join the Tap into WaterAid scheme whereby customers are asked to donate at least 15p every time order tap water.

Donations at Publican events and proceeds from our Proud of Pubs Summer Ale - which was sold at Wetherspoons pub among other outlets - have seen us well on the way to our £50,000 target.

Eddie Gershon, Wetherspoons' spokesman, said: "We are delighted to be supporting the event. It promises to be a fun night and at the same time will raise funds for a very worthwhile cause."

And WaterAid's Cara Keane added: "We love a pub quiz and are really looking forward to testing our wits against the cream of the pub industry.

"This is an excellent way of raising awareness and money in the relaxed environment of the pub. We are grateful for all of the efforts of the pub trade in raising funds for WaterAid through so many creative ways this year."
