Second Brighton pub fined for noise
The Red Rooms bar in Brighton was forced to pay more than £7,000 by magistrates yesterday (27 September) after complaints of "unbearable" noise from neighbours.
Sussex Pub Co, which owns the the Red Rooms pub in Queens Room, was ordered to pay fines and costs of £7,016 after admitting four charges of breaching their licence and one of breaching a noise abatement.
It is the second pub in Brighton in recent weeks to be fined for noise offences, following the Geese have Gone Over the Water, which had to pay over a £1,000 fine.
Breaches of the licence include leaving the doors and windows open and playing recorded music after its stated terminal hour.
The company was fined £1,000 for each breach plus £2,016 in court costs.
Environmental Health officers were summoned to the Red Rooms pub at 12.50am on 11 July following a complaint.
The licence stated that no music should be played after midnight and all doors and windows should be closed from 10pm.
The court heard that similar incidents had been witnessed on three further occasions.
Councillor and cabinet member for environment Geoffrey Theobald said: "It really is intolerable that the neighbours were subjected to this level of noise nuisance.
"The pub was given every chance to put the matter right and the council had no alternative but to prosecute to protect residents."
