Urban & Country Leisure, the pub, bar and hotel operator led by Ross Sanders, has reopened the Plough in Downside, Surrey, after investing £250,000 in a refurbishment.

The pub, which has been closed for eight weeks, has seen its restaurant extended and an open-plan style kitchen created.

The group had previously secured £10m worth of funding from three investors, including Bridgehouse Capital, and plans to more than double in size by adding 15 pubs in the next two years.

Sanders founded the company three years ago after previously working for nightclub company Luminar, opening Chicago Rock Cafes, as well as spending time working for Spirit in its private equity days.

The Plough, a Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company site, was known as L'Auberge At The Plough, Cobham, a couple of years ago.
