So they took matters into their own hands and raised £110,000 to buy the 19th century inn from pub group Enterprise - The Mirror

Some of Scotland's most popular nightlife haunts face a ban on any future pubs, clubs or off-sales under groundbreaking new plans to be in force by the end of the year. Authorities in Glasgow have identified seven areas across the city considered to be at saturation point for venues selling alcohol. A nurse has been appointed to try to tackle the number of alcohol-related admissions at hospitals in Essex. Government figures show 3,950 people were treated at hospitals in Colchester and Tendring in 2008/9 for illnesses or injuries related to alcohol.
