Mitchells & Butlers brand Toby Carvery is offering customers an unusual dessert option: a Yorkshire pudding ice cream.

The dish is on the menu as a limited edition ice cream as part of a two course carvery for £5.25 offer - which started on Monday and ends on Saturday(10 July).

The dessert is a Yorkshire pudding filled with ice cream, which customers can decorate with chocolate, strawberry or butterscotch sauces.

Toby Carvery assistant brand manager Emily Albanese said: "We've had some great feedback on our trial ice cream. Some people like the idea and others think it's completely out there but once they've tried it, the majority of guests have loved the taste.

"Yorkshire Pudding recipe is actually very similar to a pancake mix so it works really well with sweet accompaniments.

"It won't be a permanent addition to our menu just yet but it will be interesting to see how well it goes down with guests during this limited period."

Customers have given mixed feedback on Toby Carvery's Facebook page. Jill Ellen Pitt wrote: "Yes, I at last have had a Yorkshire pudding ice cream. Our waitress put a crispy Yorkshire pudding in a dish (I think a softer one would have been better), filled it with ice cream and put on the chocolate sauce and, abra cadabra, there it was — the elusive Yorkshire pudding ice cream. After all that, I prefer the usual one."

However, Bunny Duncan wrote: "Bring on the Yorkshire pudding ice cream — again!"
