Sheffield pub crowned Best Bar None
A Sheffield pub, which once served Pete Doherty soft drinks all night, has been crowned the most responsible pub in the UK.
The Frog and Parrot has won the 2010 Best Bar None award, which recognises the pub as the most safe and responsible in the UK.
Judges were impressed by the venue's choice of music, training, community atmosphere and relationship with surrounding residents — the manager has fortnightly meetings with residents' assocations.
"When Pete Doherty came into our pub I thought we'd lose our reputation for being a nice and relaxing place to come and enjoy yourself," said manager Nick Simmonite.
"But amazingly he was really nice, well behaved and drank soft drinks all night.
"The secret to providing customers with a great but safe night out is to ensure your staff receive the best training, then trust them to ensure the pub is a fuss-free place for customers to enjoy themselves."
The Greene King managed pub is famous for its musical connections — Joe Cocker signed his first deal there, Guns and Roses once visited and it was there that Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys were discovered.
