Spurs to turn pub into a ticket office
A pub popular with Spurs fans, located in the shadow of the club's White Hart Lane grounds, has been closed down by the club to make way for a ticket office.
The Corner Pin in north London has been closed to make way for a temporary ticket office, while the club's new 60,000 seater stadium is being built.
"The regulars aren't happy, but there is not a lot you can do," said manager Peter Buzec. The pub was bought by the football club in 2008, and the management was given four weeks' notice of the closure.
Bernie Kingsley, chairman of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust, told the Tottenham Journal there was a "wider issue to be worried about". "There have been an awful lot of pubs that have closed down in the area in recent years."
A spokesman for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club said "any project of this size and substance will inevitably require a degree of change in the area".
He added: "Unfortunately, due to current requirements, the Corner Pin will be closed and used as the club's ticket office in order to clear the existing site in Paxton Road.
"This will be a short-term change for long-term gain for both supporters and people in the local community.
"The proposed new development will include new bars and cafés in addition to the reintroduction of a traditional pub open all week rather than just match days."
