Leeds pubs pass underage sting tests
Fifteen pubs and clubs in Leeds will receive a letter of congratulations from Leeds Council after passing underage sting tests on Saturday.
Police sent a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl into 15 venues and observed as barstaff refused to serve them alcohol. Barstaff who fail a sting test face an £80 fine and the licensee could be prosecuted, lose their licence or be forced into temporary closure.
"Alcohol is more often than not a key factor in antisocial behaviour and crime involving teenagers, and underage drinkers become more vulnerable if they've consumed alcohol," Inspector Grant Stead told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"These results are extremely promising ahead of the half-term holidays, when antisocial behaviour has the potential to rise, and these premises are to be thanked for their efforts and encouraged to keep up the good work."
