Sansford: banned from pubs for six years
Magistrates have banned a man from all pubs in England and Wales for six years using an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO).

Magistrates have banned a man from all pubs in England and Wales for six years using an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO).

Robert Sansford, 56, who has lived at a number of addresses around East Sussex, attacked a number of women in unprovoked attacks.

In February he set upon two women in the Setting Sun pub in Brighton, leaving one unable to return to work.

A council application for an ASBO against Sansford was succesful yesterday, preventing him from entering all clubs, pubs, bars and off-licences in England and Wales for six years.

Sansford is currently in prison awaiting sentence for the Setting Sun attack.

Head of community safety for the council Linda Beanlands said: "We are delighted that the court has agreed with the council and the police in agreeing an extension and variation to the ASBO. People who want a quiet drink in their local pub can rest assured that we take their protection seriously, in particular that women cannot become a target for violence."

Meanwhile, separate powers have been used to ban a troublemaker in East Yorkshire for two years.

Thomas Jackson, 44, of Royal Mews, has been given a two-year drink banning order by Hull Magistrates' Court following a string of abusive and drunk behaviour.

Jackson can be arrested if he is drunk in a public place, if he drinks in the street or if he enters a licensed premises anywhere within the city centre.
