A record-breaking darts player has taken over the pub where he held a marathon session.

James Footitt, 23, took the helm at the Nags Head in Helpringham, Lincolnshire, just two weeks after he and his friend Thomas Waterfield raised £1,300 for Cancer Research by playing darts for a total of 29 hours and 52 minutes.

He said: "We aimed to play for 36 hours but the physical and mental strain was just too much.

"We broke the previous record and carried on for a while but just could not carry on any longer.

"The worst time was through the night. It was okay when the pub was open and the customers were there to support us.

"When the pub closed at midnight on Friday till midday Saturday that 12 hours was the worst.

"We had our support team and the radio came in for interviews etc, but during the night when our bodies thought we should be asleep was hard to get through."

He is currently on a tenancy at will deal with Enterprise Inns but is keen to sign a permanent deal.

During the match the two players only took a total of 40 minutes break.
