Bitter bother for Tory MP at Wetherspoons
A Tory MP had half a pint of bitter thrown over her during a constituency meeting held in a pub in North Yorkshire.
Anne McIntosh, a shadow minister on David Cameron's environment team, has been holding regular meetings at JD Wetherspoon venue the Three Tuns, in Thirsk, for the past year.
However by the end of last Friday's meeting, she was left soaked in John Smith's Extra Smooth bitter.
McIntosh said: "I regret to say that there was an unfortunate incident involving a constituent which is the first time this has ever happened to me at one of my surgeries.
"Clearly, the behaviour was unacceptable and it doesn't help to promote either the issue or democracy."
David Andrews, a Conservative Party supporter who is opposing plans for an incinerator in the area, lost patience when he felt McIntosh wasn't listening to his argument, and poured his drink over her head.
A spokesman for Wetherspoon's labelled the incident "very unfortunate", adding that the regular meetings McIntosh held at the pub over the past year had always run smoothly.
