St Austell rewards its top pubs
Cornish brewer St Austell has rewarded two of its licensees for outstanding achievement with a new Director's Award.
The award, handed out for the first time, went to Ed and Barbara May of the Great Western Hotel in Newquay and John Milan — who has held over 18 St Austell tenancies over 23 years.
The Mays received the award in recognition of their work in managing a major refurbishment of the hotel and then taking it on to become a success.
Milan currently runs the Three Crowns Hotel, Chagford, Devon and the highly successful Pandora Inn and Punchbowl and Ladle pubs in Cornwall.
The awards were held at the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay, with guest speaker and BII Business magazine editor Andrew Pring.
Managers of the Year went to Rob and Lucy Brewer from the Rashleigh Arms, Charlestown while the Tenants of the Year award went to Mike and Pauline Meredith from the London Inn, Padstow.
"It's been a year of extremes, with huge economic challenges and of course no sign of the barbecue summer we were promised," said Adam Luck, estate director at St Austell Brewery.
"Yet, in the midst of this St Austell Brewery enjoyed record beer sales, witnessed truly amazing performances from some of our pubs and won high profile awards along the way."
