Enter the The Publican Pub Golf Tournament 2010
Hundreds of pubs have put teams forward and countless golfers have taken part.
Will 2010 be the year that a team from your pub puts themselves on the golfing map?
The Publican Pub Golf Tournament, in association with London Pride, has brought locals together in the name of their pub for years, from all over the UK.
Unfolding from March to July, our 2010 tournament will see pub teams taking part in area heats and finals, before the best contenders go on to one of two regional finals - one for the South East and South West, and one for the North and the Midlands.
The two winning teams will then battle it out for the biggest prize of all at a four-day event at the amazing La Manga golfing complex in Spain - with flights, accommodation and much more thrown in.
Taking part
In previous years, licensees have often captained their pub's team and joined customers to play at one of the pub golf events. But it is by no means essential that the publican takes part, with many previously communicating the tournament information to a keen golfer in the pub who has then become the captain themselves.
Either way, the tournament underlines the value of bringing pub regulars together in the name of golf.
Some publicans use the tournament as a hospitality opportunity, with some fabulous golf venues to entertain their teams. With a format that includes coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf, a 'halfway house' for complementary refreshments - including a nicely poured London Pride! - prizes and challenges throughout the day, there is no better place to entertain your guests.
Mark Roberts, marketing manager for London Pride brewer Fuller's, says The Publican Pub Golf Tournament is a chance for licensees and managers to build relationships with their customers and give something back for their loyalty and custom.
"Whether the teams qualify or just have a great day out, they can head back to the pub and discuss the round over a pint of London Pride, the official beer of the English Golf Union," he says.
2010 will be the fourth year that Fuller's has been involved in the tournament.
"This is an excellent opportunity for us to reinforce our reputation as the beer of golf, across the UK and among thousands of customers," comments Roberts. "As such, this tournament is a great complement to our other golf-related advertising, sponsorship and promotional activity."
