West Bromwich Albion Football Club has bought a freehold pub next to its grounds.

The football club bought the pub for an undisclosed sum from an unnamed pub company.

The detached Hawthorns pub is a Grade II listed building, which comprises a 150-cover main bar, a 200-cover lounge/function room, and four-bedroom owner's accommodation.

Gavin Wright, director at Christie + Co, who handled the sale, said: "Following a successful marketing campaign we carried out in excess of 30 viewings and received several offers following a best and final offers process for this well-located pub."

The club has not yet made clear whether it will continue to trade the business as a pub.
