Drinks wholesaler WaverleyTBS has promoted Jonathan Townsend from his position as the group's commercial director to the role of managing director.

Townsend joined WaverleyTBS last September, shortly after the group's previous managing director, Gordon Johncox had exited the business "to pursue other interests".

Further changes announced by the group see Mark Riley appointed to the role of trading director with responsibility for both independent free trade and national sales, and Stuart Walker, who joins the business as the new finance director.

Tim Caseldine will continue in his role as category development director and add the management of telesales to his current responsibilities.

Commenting on his promotion, Townsend said: "The new management team at WaverleyTBS is focused on implementing the business change strategy that we announced last year.

"The new roles for Tim, Mark and Stuart combined with the new structure, will best enable us to drive these plans to ensure the future success of WaverleyTBS."

In August last year WaverleyTBS announced a major revamp of a number of its sales forces and admitted it needed to "refocus and sharpen" its operations in order to remain competitive.
