The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has appointed a new director of brewing to help with its fight for fairer treatment on beer duty.

Andy Tighe will this week replace David Long, who has retired after 29 years with the trade group.

Tighe, currently deputy director of brewing, has been with the BBPA himself for 12 years.

He has worked on taxation policy and the group's annual Budget submission, and beer duty operations and supply chain issues, the BBPA said.

Brigid Simmonds, BBPA chief executive, said: "Andy will be a key advocate for the whole sector across the huge range of vital brewing issues that we manage on behalf of members, not least of which is the ongoing debate on tax, where his knowledge and expertise will be crucial."

Simmonds also paid tribute to the outgoing Long, who was interim chief executive until she took the BBPA helm.

"He has made a huge contribution to the sector, and will be very much missed by the many who have worked closely with him. We wish him well," she said.
