Suffolk-based Mauldons Brewery has bought a second pub — the Cottage at Norwich.

The Cottage has been closed since August 2009, and following the company's purchase in October, it has been refurbished to the tune of £40,000.

The pub, which was sold for an undisclosed sum by Britannia Business Sales, will re-open next week.

Mauldons bought freehold pub the Black Adder Brewery Tap (formerly the Black Horse) in Sudbury, 18 months ago. The firm's second site is leased from private landlord Elizabeth Holdings, and is free-of-tie.

The licensees are Clive and Sally Mann, who for the past year, have run Mauldons Sudbury outlet.

The Mann's intend to take the Cottage "back to basics" with handpumps on the bar, including a traditional cider and some "unusual" draught products. The couple will offer food at lunchtime and customers will be welcome to bring in their own takeaways in the evening.

There will be between four to six Mauldons beers on sale at any one time, including their flagship session beer Moletrap, plus guest ales from local brewers.
