JD Wetherspoon swept the board in the Loo of the Year Awards 2009 — scooping the national awards for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The four pubs that won the individual titles were; Goodman's Field (City of London), the Earl of Zetland (Grangemouth, Scotland), the John Capel Hanbury (Pontypool, Wales) and the Diamond, (Derry, Northern Ireland).

In addition Wetherspoon won the UK Trophy in the Corporate Provider category and was named in the 2009 Champions League — Standards of Excellence Awards.

This is presented to any organisation, who, in the opinion of the inspectors, are maintaining a consistently high standard of management in all their Loo of the Year Awards entries.

A total of 144 Wetherspoon pubs were entered into the awards and they were each inspected anonymously in order to check the standards of their toilet provision.

The judges marked from zero to a maximum five stars with 104 Wetherspoon pubs receiving the maximum five stars and 40 receiving four stars.

Wetherspoon head of property and acquisitions Jon Randall, said: "We are thrilled to have won so many plaudits in the Loo of the Year Awards 2009.

"Our staff maintain their pub toilets to the highest standards at all times and this is reflected in the judges inspections.

"We will continue to provide our customers with the best loos at all times."
