A group of tied tenants is threatening to stop paying rent and buying beer from their pubcos in a bid to kill their cashflow.

The Pub Revolution cause currently has around 350 members on Facebook and is calling for direct action against pubcos now, rather than waiting for a Government response to the Business and Enterprise Committee or any possible Office of Fair Trading inquiry into the beer tie.

"Nothing's going to change unless we the leaseholders do something for ourselves," the campaign leader, known as UK Mass Bercott on the Morning Advertiser forum, said.

"We can instigate a mass UK beercott and claim our lives back. It's our cash that is keeping the pubcos going. Power to the publicans."

The group claims to be a "growing army of tenants and leaseholders" who have had enough of the pubcos. "Waiting for the outcome of all the government inquiries and ludicrous spin will be too late for us all.

"We have decided it's time to take control of our own destiny, become empowered and take our trade back for ourselves before this great British institution becomes a thing of the past. The stark reality is that our cash is all that is enabling the pubcos to survive. If they didn't have our money they wouldn't exist."

The group believes that by witholding rent and buying beer outside of the tie, they would be able to pay their own bills while forcing pubcos to reform or even go under.
