Pubwatch bans are being handed out to thugs who attack ambulance staff in north-west Wales.

A similar scheme already operates in Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Chester and Carlisle and now it's now been adopted by pubwatch schemes in Gwynedd and Anglesey.

It came after the North West Wales NHS Trust and Wales Ambulance Service Trust became affiliated members of Bangor and District Pubwatch.

One person has already been given a two-year ban from pubs and clubs in Bangor and Bethesda for threatening and abusing NHS staff while drunk.

The tie-in is advertised on posters in local NHS Trust premises, and in ambulances themselves.

Martin Jones, chief executive of the North West Wales NHS Trust, said: "This new relationship with the Pubwatch scheme will help drive home the message that unacceptable conduct will not be tolerated - and there will be wider consequences for individuals engaged in such behaviour."

National Pubwatch chairman Steve Baker supports the approach in general, but stressed the importance of pubwatches themselves being responsible for who gets banned.
