Trade group the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) is urging non-members from the licensed trade to come along to its autumn event at The Publican's Licensed Business Show.

The event, which will be looking at the current state of the licensed trade, is part of Leisure Industry Week (LIW) at Birmingham's NEC on September 22-24.

The ALMR part on September 24 will include a political update as well as details about its Operations Manager's Awards presentation.

Nick Bish, ALMR chief executive, said: "It's a bold move, opening our event to non-members but we believe it will add value to the licensed trade and we're keen to support all organisations in this current climate.

"The Licensed Business Show at LIW is the perfect place to hold our autumn event with many key licensed business figures attending."

Speakers at the political update include Dennis Turner, chief economist of HSBC, and MPs from the three main political parties.

The Publican's managing editor Daniel Pearce, who will quiz the politicians, said: "The ALMR's autumn event is a great attraction for top-level visitors and decision makers from the pub trade.

"Delegates from both within and outside the ALMR will be able to hear the latest thinking on the pub trade and its future - while the political debate will see senior MPs from across Parliament put on the spot as they are asked to discuss their policies towards pubs."
