Pub manager reveals horror of samurai sword attack
A pub manager has revealed how he thought he was going to die at the hands of robbers who attacked him with a samurai sword, a saw and baseball bat.
Stuart Shaw was left with a broken arm and a gash to the leg from the attack at the Coach and Horses pub in Flint Mountain, North Wales.
After taking about £2,000 the hooded men repeatedly hit him and tied up a pub regular.
Shaw, who has had to have a metal plate fitted to his arm, said: "The three guys came in. One had a samurai sword, another had a very big metal baseball bat and the other one what looked like a wood saw.
"They put my arms behind my back and put the sword to my throat and marched me behind the bar to the till and ordered me to open it.
"I gave them the money and they took everything, even the coppers."
Stuart, who is now back at the pub carrying out admin duties following the July 20 attack, continued: "They then kicked me in the groin and I fell downstairs. They ran after me. I picked up a chair to defend myself. They kept hitting me, mainly with the baseball bat. One broke my arm and the bone actually came out."
He added: "They were definitely trying to kill me. I heard them say 'hit him over the head'."
Lovely Day Inns, which owns the pub and two others in the area, is putting up a reward to help catch the attackers.
Managing director Stuart Bickerton-Starkey said: "It was a horrific incident because they had got the money but they still beat him up.
"This is only a small pub and we want to warn others in the area to be on their guard against this sort of thing."
