Man jailed for pub worker attack
A campaign group has welcomed the three year jail term given to a man who attacked a pub worker with a lump of wood with nails driven through it.
Robert Mynott was sentenced to prison at Leeds Crown Court last week after admitting to carrying out the attack at the New Inn in Wetherby, Yorkshire, on deputy manager Christopher Greenhough.
The January 30 incident happened after Greenhough - who was off-duty at the time - refused to serve 52-year-old Mynott.
Greenhough had to have stitches in a six-inch head wound following the assault.
National Pubwatch launched the Court Not Caution campaign earlier this year to urge police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to take attacks on licensees and their staff more seriously.
National Pubwatch chairman Steve Baker said: "This was a serious premeditated attack on a licensee who was acting responsibly.
"I am very pleased that the police and CPS viewed it as such and prosecuted the individual concerned. The three year prison sentence shows that if we can get an offender before the courts they will be dealt with in a positive way."
More than 700 people have signed an online petition backing the campaign.
