An Ember Inns customer has won a national competition to brew her own ale, which will be sold in 170 pubs nationwide.

Michelle Martin, who has named her ale Taste of Heaven, won the opportunity after entering the competition run by Ember Inns in partnership with UK brewer, Batemans, during National Cask Ale Week.

Martin, a cask ale fan, was delighted to win the competition, "I'd always been fascinated by real ale but never imagined I would get the chance to brew my own.

"I knew that I wanted to create a zesty ale that would be refreshing to drink in the summer and light enough for people who haven't tried real ale before," she said.

The name, Taste of Heaven, was inspired by afternoons drinking ale with her husband in the pub garden. "Whenever Tony and I have a sip of ale we like we always say it 'tastes like heaven", she said.

Oliver Devine, marketing manager for Ember Inns, said: "Michelle was really passionate about cask ale and was keen to create a flavour that would encourage people who don't usually drink ale to give it a go which is what Cask Ale Week was all about."

Stuart Bateman, managing director at Batemans brewery, added: "Taste of Heaven is a cool and refreshing ale that I'm sure is going to prove very popular over the summer."

Taste of Heaven is a limited edition ale that goes on sale in all Ember Inns across the country on 10 July and will be available throughout the month.
