Peter Morris
Peter Morris managing director, Daniel Thwaites (new entry)
Why he is on the list:
Peter Morris is a year into his new job as boss of Lancashire-based Daniel Thwaites after a career spent, in part, with Whitbread and Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises. Thwaites brews 300,000 barrels per year, operates 400 pubs and runs a small hotels division.
What the past year has held:
There have been major changes at Thwaites since Morris took the helm, arriving with a clear game plan of modernising the regional brewer. The company has been restructured and a number of new directors have joined. All 37 managed houses are being converted to tenancy and licensees now have a new tenancy agreement with beer discounts available for the first time. New contracts are being brokered with national brewers including S&NUK, which has seen a major deal for the supply of Foster's into the estate. Thwaites also secured a deal to brew new-style Skol4 lager for Carlsberg.
Challenges ahead:
The wind of change may not have stopped blowing through the Star Brewery at Blackburn. Morris admits he had a big job on his hands when he first arrived and the new culture he has brought into the company may yet see more interesting developments. Further energies will be expended pushing sales of flagship cask ales Lancaster Bomber and Wainwright.
