Justice for Licensees and the Save the Great British Pub campaign has launched a National Pub Day on 4 April to highlight the positive role played by pubs in communities.

Founder of Justice for Licensees and Enterprise Inns lessee, Inez Ward, has called on the industry to unite and support the event.

She added that Justice for Licensees would be producing promotional material for the day such as posters but needed more backing from high profile trade names .

"We're calling on anybody in the trade to support this including CAMRA and the brewers. It will get people back into pubs and will be good for everyone as well as licensees."

She said the idea for a National Pub Day had come from members of Save the Great British Pub campaign, which now has more than 200,000 members.

It is hoped the event will encourage the campaign's growing support from the public as well as giving pubs a much needed boost.

"I think the public are starting to becoming more aware of the campaign. We already have 205,000 members so who knows how many we will have by April 4th," said Inez.

"This day will highlight the benefits of the great British pub such as the social interaction, promoting community spirit, as well as the countless other benefits that the great British pub has to offer."

She added: " It is hoped that all taking part will continue to serve alcohol responsibly as countless pubs across this great nation continue to do on a daily basis."
