A passionate group of locals has taken over a pub in a bid to give business a boost.

Villagers from Grizebeck in Cumbria have formed a committee to run the Greyhound Inn while the current licensee takes a break.

Their efforts will be screened later in the year as part of a TV series dedicated to turning struggling pubs around on UKTV channel Blighty.

Martin Salter-Smith, who is part of the committee, said: "It looks as if changing patterns of drinking and eating - and that also includes the reluctance to drink and drive - have affected the takings of the Greyhound, just like many other pubs.

"But we want to turn that around. For those of us who live in Grizebeck, having the pub within walking distance has always been a bonus. It's at the heart of the community. We don't want to lose that."

The vision for the new Greyhound will include good local beers and reasonably priced food in a welcoming environment with cosy wood burning stoves.

The production team behind the series are looking for other pubs to take part in the series.
