Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) has announced the imminent retirement of Mike Bramley, head of the group's pubs and bars division.

Bramley has been with M&B in its various forms including Bass and Six Continents for 29 years and started his current role in 2002.

He is due to retire from the M&B board April 30, 2009, when he will be 58. He will step down as managing director of Pubs & Bars at the end of the first half of the current financial year on April 11, 2009.

M&B then plans to restructure the operation under Adam Fowle, currently managing director of the Restaurants division, who will become chief operating officer. M&B said Bramley will assist in the operational handover of the Pubs & Bars business until his retirement.

Tim Clarke, M&B's chief executive, said: "I would like to thank Mike Bramley for his outstanding contribution to Mitchells & Butlers over the past 29 years and wish him well in his future retirement.

"I look forward to continuing to work with Adam Fowle to further develop Mitchells & Butlers' strength in the pub and pub restaurant sector."
