Camra: looking to save pubs from closing
The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) has launched a new website to advise the public of how to save their pub.

The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) has launched a new website to advise the public of how to save their pub.

The move comes as the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) revealed that 39 pubs now close every week.

Camra fears that one in eight could close by 2012. The "Save our Pubs" initiative aims to advise pub-goers of the best practices in helping to stop their pub closing for good.

The major emphasis of the initiative is a forum designed to encourage people to discuss ways to help pubs under threat of closure. There will also be downloadable information resources on the site.

"Camra is brimming with knowledgeable people, young and old, who have active experience in campaigning against the closure of pubs," said Julian Hough, chair of Camra's Pub Campaigns Committee.

"With the aid of advisory literature and our online forum, we have created an ideal environment for people to share ideas and devise effective campaigning strategies to promote and protect Britain's 57,000 pubs."

He added: "Due to gloomy economic forecasts, 2009 will no doubt be a pivotal year for pub campaigning, therefore we believe this is the ideal time to launch a support initiative such as 'Save Our Pubs'. We urge pub goers to use this site and forum to help save the nation's viable pubs."
