FLVA website to boost buying power
A trade group is hoping to give its members the same buying power as major companies with the launch of a new website.
The Federation of Licensed Victuallers' Associations (FLVA) today unveiled details of its new purchasing website at its AGM in Blackpool.
The site, which will be exclusive to FLVA members, is expected to go live in January and will give users the chance to browse deals from hundreds of suppliers.
It also hoped the launch of the site will encourage more people to join the 600-strong body.
Members will able to check-out deals on a range of products including food and drink, utilities, laundry contracts, fixtures and fittings and waste disposal.
Lisa Wray, a consultant managing the product, said: "This will secure you some of the benefits that have historically only been available to big managed house and major groups.
"A lots of suppliers in the UK target big groups because they can put deals together. What we are trying to do is bring the benefit of large organisations that still allow you to retain your authority and independence in the marketplace."
Shaun Rennison, FLVA past president, said: "This will give members access to the big deals in the marketplace. It is fully funded and ready to go. It's all about improving your bottom line."
The two-day conference at the Norbreck Hotel also featured a talk on the benefits of cash and carry accounts by Makro's Andy Walsh and marketing tips from Sammy Llloyd of Sammy Lord Partnership.
Tony Payne, the FLVA's chief executive - who had announced he will step down from the post at the end of next year - said the reason the theme of the first day was Saving the British Public House was because he had "never seen so many boarded up pubs. "And it is in my opinion that come January there will be many more," he added.
"Our aim is to give people the chance to go away with more knowledge than they came here with."
