An award-winning pub has added to its accolades with a charter mark in recognition of its facilities for the deaf.

The True Lover's Knot in Tarrant Keynston, near Blandford, Dorset picked up the Louder than Words award from charity RNID after proving its commitment to providing deaf and hard of hearing people greater accessibility to its services.

Changes made to the pub included the installation of an induction loop, and deaf awareness and sign language training for staff.

Antony Marshall, licensee of the True Lover's Knot, said: "Both hearing and deaf customers have commented on the improvements and are very positive about our service. They also haven't been shy in spreading the word locally, so custom has definitely improved. We have received awards for business innovation and customer service in the licensed trade for all our efforts and we are very proud.

"The changes we made were very easy and to be honest we don't know why we hadn't done this before. I would recommend all pubs and restaurants improve accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing people."

Lynne Nelson, business development manager for the Employment, Training and Skills Service at the RNID, said: "For a public house to actively improve access for their deaf and hard of hearing staff and customers, is truly commendable. We hope it will encourage other public houses to make the small changes that lead to a huge difference to those who have a hearing loss."
