Pubs join in Olympic success
Pubs across the UK have done their bit to mark Great Britain's "great haul of China" at the Olympics.
After bagging a staggering 19 gold medals and 47 medals in total during the games, Britain's athletes returned home this week.
And pubs were determined to join in to celebrate their amazing achievements.
In recognition of double gold medallist swimmer Rebecca Adlington, pub group Town and City changed the name of her local Yates's in Mansfield to the Adlington Arms.
The name change was in time for a huge victory parade in Mansfield for the swimmer, who also set a new world record for 800m freestyle.
Toby Smith, chief executive of Town and City Pub Company, has promised the star a free burger and chips whenever she comes into the pub, after hearing she is a fan of the meal. "Rebecca Adlington has achieved a phenomenal feat," Smith said.
Meanwhile track cycling gold medallist Jamie Staff is due to be treated to a welcoming party tomorrow (August 29), organised by his wife, at his local, the White Lion in Disley, Stockport.
Manager Sheena Calland said: "Jamie's missed his red wine and pies, so we're baking him a big steak pie for his homecoming - he deserves a treat."
At the Sherston Inn, in Wells, Somerset, licensee Huw Davies did a roaring trade serving up breakfasts to customers during the Olympics. "It's definitely paid off and the hype around the British performances has helped," he said.
And Sheffield-based brewery Kelham Island got in on the act by brewing a special beer - Goodison's Gold - for local sailor Paul Goodison, who won gold in the Laser Class.
The gold coloured 4.7ABV ale has proved popular, with 11 pubs stocking it in South Yorkshire.
