Photos of publicans meeting MPs in their pubs during Proud of Pubs Week have been pouring into The Publican's office.

Ex-Tory leader Michael Howard is pictured right with licensee Nick Grant at the British Lion in Folkestone, Kent in a fact-finding visit to mark the week on Friday.

Licensing minister Gerry Sutcliffe meanwhile was at the Six Acres in his Bradford South constituency, meeting licensee Anthony Ribouton and his team on the same day.

In Portsmouth, Lib Dem MP Mike Hancock met with Judith Burr of the Barley Mow in Southsea, which was named Cask Ale Pub of the Year by The Publican and Abbott Ale earlier this year.

Mike said: "This is a great pub and I can understand why it won an award as the best cask ale pub in the country. It was interesting to meet with Judith and discuss the problems that she and other publicans face in the wake of the economic down-turn."

"The government now needs to consider how it can back publicans. And I will be doing all that I can as an MP to see that they do that."
