Bill Donne, secretary of Reading Pubwatch — winner of Pubwatch of the Year

"The RDR award reflects the effort all partners have put into the scheme over the past five years to have seven pubwatch groups up and running across Reading. This award recognises the drive and determination of the licensees and the authorities in making Reading's pubs and clubs a safer place to be, and in reducing violent crime each year. Many people in the pubwatch organisation give their time on a voluntary basis . The local newspaper gave huge coverage to pubwatch receiving the award and promoted the work we do. To be recognised by the MA as the best pubwatch in the country for that year is an immense achievement."

Mitchells & Butlers (M&B)

"M&B is determined to ensure that all our pubs are operated in a way that fully justifies the grant of a licence for the sale of alcohol. Responsible retailing is, therefore, at the core of the successful and safe operation of our 2,000 businesses across the country. In that regard, we were delighted for the second time to be recognised by the Morning Advertiser as the most responsible drinks retailer."

Lancashire Police Constabulary

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Weigh says of the RDR awards 2007: "The Responsible Drinks Retailing Award has demonstrated all the hard work currently being performed within Lancashire, both from the constabulary and all our partner agencies. For this work and engagement to be recognised by the drink industry is heartening and demonstrates the work being undertaken."
