LTC stalwarts receive MBE
Two Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) stalwarts - Colin Wheeler and Maureen Batty - have been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
Former LTC chief executive Wheeler (pictured) and former appeals chairman and governor Batty were rewarded for services to the voluntary sector.
In addition a former member of the LTC's education committee - Professor James Drummond Bone - received a knighthood. He is vice chancellor of the University of Liverpool.
"I feel very honoured and still very surprised by this decision," said Wheeler, who also sits on the Morning Advertiser's editorial board.
"I have been very fortunate to work with and for, some very dedicated and selfless people in charities and voluntary organisations.
"Since 1968, I have been involved with helping the homeless, single parents and ex-offenders and for the last 26 years those in the licensed trade."
Batty, who is the current chair of the LTC's education committee, added: "The LTC works hard to get support to those in the trade, and it feels fantastic that our work at the LTC has been acknowledged through the honours list.
"Like Colin, I have worked with some truly amazing people who have encouraged me and were excellent role models who taught me very well.
"It is an honour to represent the many females who go unrecognised for the outstanding job they do in raising funds and supporting the charity.
"It's with this in mind that I feel very humbled to receive the MBE."
