Carlisle pubs and bars celebrated
The winners of the inaugural Carlisle and Eden District Best Bar None awards have been announced at a glitzy ceremony.
More than 200 people attended the event at Carlisle Racecourse last week.
The overall winner of Best Bar None for the Carlisle area was the Glasshouse and the Penrith area winner was Blue Jay Way.
Daryll Morrison from the Glasshouse said: ''Winning this award means everything to me.
"It's nice to be recognised for the all the hard work we put into running the place. I have learnt something from every bar I've worked in and that learning process has helped me get this award, roll on next year.''
Ed Cowin from Blue Jay Way said: "We are delighted to win the Best Bar None Award for Penrith. This reflects the effort our close knit team has put in during the past 12-months and we aim to promote safe and responsible drinking in our premises."
The accreditation and awards scheme is designed to help raise standards in the licensed trade.
Thirty-two licensees from the city and town centre pubs, clubs and bars in Carlisle and Penrith entered the Best Bar None scheme.
Leader of Carlisle City Council Cllr Mike Mitchelson said: "I am delighted with the response of local licensees to the Best Bar None awards scheme. Congratulations to The Glass House the Best Bar None overall winner for Carlisle and District.
"This scheme encourages licensees to act responsibly and take pride in their premises and surroundings and, in doing so, put something back into the their town city and local community."
