A Lincolnshire licensee has received a visit from Alistair Darling - and told him he is barred.

Unfortunately, Darren Cheesman of the Hit or Miss in Stamford, soon realised that it was not the real Chancellor trying to enter his pub but one of his regulars wearing moustaches as eyebrows.

"It was soon realised that a mistake had been made and the Darling look-a-like was in fact a regular of the pub - Jez Norris - who was supporting the campaign to Fight the Hikes," said Cheesman.

MP visit

The licensee did, however, receive a visit from his MP Quentin Davis after downloading the MA template letter urging MPs to sign Greg Mulholland's Early Day Motion calling for a re-think on the extortionate duty rises.

Davis, a former Tory who defected to Labour, refused to sign the EDM.

"He politely declined, explaining that he felt that revenue needed to be raised from somewhere and that the pub industry had had it good for the past 10 years," said Cheesman.

However the kind-hearted MP did donate to the pub's charity - raising money for sufferers for the rare genetic disorder Xeroderma Pigmentsum.

The MA is calling on all licensees to get involved in the campaign to Fight the Hikes. Click the link below to download your campaign toolkit.
