My New Pub The Three Horseshoes
Allensmore, Herefordshire
Agent: Christie+Co
Jason Ratcliffe has taken over the Three Horseshoes after four years as assistant manager. His parents, Mark and Bridgett, recently sold the freehold of the site to British Country Inns after 27 years in the licensed trade. Jason's girlfriend, Jess Smith, is assistant manager.
Jason is adopting an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to the busy village pub. He said: "It's always been successful, and things won't change much. We plan to serve food all day on Sundays and advertise our bed and breakfast more widely."
There is excellent repeat trade at the food-led pub, which offers a selection of good-value food with a bar menu, specials board and à la carte dishes.
The former 18th-century coaching inn is located just off the A465 Hereford to Abergavenny road, three miles south-west of Hereford in the Golden Valley.
The detached property comprises two bars, three restaurants with 56 covers, three en-suite letting bedrooms, three bedroom owners' accommodation, a staff cottage and grounds including a 60-cover trade garden and petanque pitch.
Nicholas Calfe, of Christie+Co, said: "This swift deal, completed in six weeks, demonstrates the high demand for quality freeholds."
