The Shoulder of Mutton in Kirby Overblow, North Yorkshire was crowned best pub in the North at the Northern Hospitality Awards.

Licensees David and Kate Deacon have built their reputation on creating a range of dishes all from fresh produce with favourites being braised shoulder of lamb, chicken and leek pie, fresh fish and chips, grilled fillet of salmon, steak and onion pie and deep-fried scampi.

The Shoulder of Mutton beat off stiff competition from the Bayley Arms and the Highwayman in Lancashire and the Q Bar and the Sweetenham Arms in Cheshire to the award.

"Once again, we are proud to host the Northern Hospitality Awards and work with the industry across the region to go from hundreds of entries to nine exceptional winners,"​ said Thom Hetherington, managing Director of the awards' organisers, Moorfield Media.

"These awards are unique and reflect the strength and depth of the hospitality industry in our region."

• Best Bar - Barlounge, Chester

• Best Pub - The Shoulder of Mutton, Kirkby Overblow, N Yorkshire

• Best Newcomer - Pipe & Glass Inn, East Yorkshire

• Best Chef Mentor - Eyck Zimmer, The Lowry, Manchester

• Best Chef - Lisa Allen, Northcote Manor, Lancashire

• Best Wine Offering - Northcote Manor, Lancashire

• Special Achievement Award - Reg Johnson, Johnson & Swarbrick
