Car smashes into pub
A driver had a narrow escape when she crashed her car through the front of a Doncaster pub.
The car struck the front door of the Salutation as licensee Gayle Bee slept upstairs.
The smash woke her and sent her bedside lamp crashing to the floor although the driver of the car was miraculously unhurt.
"Luckily she was alright considering the car embedded itself in our front door and some cement posts," said Bee.
"I heard the noise and thought 'Oh my god'. First I thought it was an explosion. It hit the pub with some force. It could have been a lot worse. If she'd hit the pub under one of the windows or the corner, we could not have a pub."
The incident occurred as the driver slowed to turn into an archway next to the pub, but a minibus behind her failed to slow and propelled her car into the pub.
Despite the damage to the front door, the pub was able to trade the same day.
"Trade was very very good for a Tuesday afternoon," said Bee.
"It spread like wildfire. We had a lot come in saying 'I hear you've been hit by a car'. I think they were expecting it to be impaled in the middle of the pub."
