What do you think about the potential ban on outside patio heaters?

We've got six electric heaters mounted to the walls of our patio and they are switched on during most days of the winter. I think they are more environmentally friendly than gas, but any ban would cause us problems as the patio is very popular right through the year. Hopefully, it will be some time yet before anything happens.

The managing director at JW Lees objects to heating fresh air, so we do not have outside heaters at the pub. Our patio, however, is a natural sun trap and over the last few days the good weather has seen customers basking in the sunshine and having a very good time. Obviously, a ban would hit licensees who have made a substantial investment in outside heaters.

We are currently refurbishing our outside courtyard area, but as it is a listed building we cannot have heaters attached to the walls so standalones are the only option for us. There isn't really any other way of heating outside areas, so perhaps they should just ban smoking outside and have done with it.

This is all about saving your business or saving the planet, so it depends which side of the argument you sit on. Perhaps it's time to explore other types of heating, such as solar panels or something else environmentally friendly. We are landlocked at the Church House, however, so any ban would not really affect us.
