The Licensed Victuallers School in Ascot recently hosted the East Berkshire heat of the Rotary's Young Chef Competition.

Budding chefs, aged 11-17, took part in the competition where they had to devise, prepare and present a healthy two-course meal for two on a budget of £10.

The winner was Emily Shaw of Luckley-Oakfield School in Wokingham who, along with the runner up Abbie Alston, will go onto the District Final held in Banbury in February.

"We were approached by the Rotary Club to help host the East Berkshire heat of the 'Young Chef' Competition and of course, were delighted to help in any way we could," said Ian Mullins, director of education.

"The schools facilities really are second to none so it makes absolute sense to use them for events such as this.

"The Rotary were very pleased with the event and we have committed to hosting the regional heat again next year. Who knows, there might be some future pub chefs amongst all those talented young people."

The winner of the 2008 competition will be awarded a trophy, a day's experience at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant and a trip to Tuscany to witness the olive harvest and the tasting festival.

The final will be held in April at Westminster Kingsway College in London.
