Corporate goal for the year?
To continue differentiating the character
and individuality of our beers, pubs and service standards for consumer and trade alike. This will be encapsulated in the entity to be known as "Wadworthshire" - not only the heartland of Wiltshire and the surrounding shires in which our pubs and services are best known, but also the state of mind of being transported to Wadworthshire wherever and whenever you sit down to enjoy a Wadworth beer.
Having informed our drinkers for years that 6X is handmade in Devizes, people will at last know where Devizes is; it is the brewing heart of Wadworthshire, where the Wadworth shire horses deliver our beers.
Biggest challenge your business faces?
The greatest challenges of 2008 are likely to be those of 2007 - but more so: to recruit and support the very best licensees; to tackle the unsubstantiated misbelief that alcohol and its use is the root of all evil; to deal with the continuing economic fallout of late 2007; and, last but not least, to organise unbroken sunshine from Easter to October.
Where's the light at the end of the tunnel?
With our new visitor centre putting Devizes firmly on the tourist map; with planning consent in prospect for the construction of our new Copperhouse in the original 1885 brewery; new pubs being acquired; and our cask sales growing, we enter 2008 with the confidence to deliver profitable growth and to have plenty of fun in the process.
Favourite quotation or business adage?
"While it may be terribly nice to be important, it is far more important to be nice." I always keep this in mind when focusing on the important matters in life and in business.
