Chris Evans buys third pub
The DJ spends around £950,000 on Welsh country pub

Radio Two DJ Chris Evans has bought his third pub for a sum in the region of £950,000.

He snapped up a Welsh country pub, the Newbridge Inn, in an off-market deal brokered by Christie + Co.

The Newbridge Inn has an idyllic rural setting on the bank of the River Usk in the village of Tredunnock in the Vale of Usk, Monmouthshire.

Nicholas Calfe, director of Christie + Co's Bristol office, negotiated the deal via Chris Evans' accountant, Kirit Doshi of London-based Spiro Bentley, on behalf of the owners of the inn, David and Annie Davies.

Chris Evans already owns two Surrey pubs, the Mulberry Tree pub in Chiddingfold and the Red Lion in Milford, and got to know the Newbridge Inn when playing golf in the Usk Valley.

The Newbridge Inn has a reputation as one of the finest pubs and restaurants in Wales, offering a superb dining experience together with quality bed and breakfast accommodation, and has been awarded two Rosettes by the AA and a 4 Star rating by the Welsh Tourist Board.

"We were delighted to negotiate the sale of this high quality Monmouthshire freehouse on behalf of Mr and Mrs Davies to Chris Evans and wish him every success with the business," said Calfe.

"Freehold freehouses of this calibre rarely come to the market and are highly sought after, attracting premium prices.

"Our clients, David and Annie Davies, had owned the Newbridge Inn for around five years and operated it under management. They have sold the freehold in order for Mr Davies to concentrate on his business commitments as president of Spear Europe, an international label printing company based in Cwmbran.

"We believe that Mr Evans will be bringing in his own team to manage the Newbridge Inn."
