The search is hotting up for the KNORR National Chef of the Year 2008. Do you have what it takes to join the ranks of Eyck Zimmer and Gordon Ramsay as the winner of the £10,000 first prize?

This year's culinary challenge culminates in a live final at the Restaurant Show at London's Earl's Court on 7 October 2008. Run by the Craft Guild of Chefs in partnership with Knorr and open to chefs above the age of 21 working in the UK hospitality industry, the competition acknowledges and rewards the crème de la crème of today's chef talent.

Craft Guild of Chefs vice president David Mulcahy said: "The nation's most talented chef will demonstrate exceptional technical skill, creating food with flavour, texture, balance and style. The ideal candidate is also commercial, practical, efficient and well organised.

Unilever Foodsolutions managing director Simon Marshall said: "Knorr is delighted to announce its continued support for the Craft Guild of Chefs' National Chef of the Year competition, which epitomises culinary excellence and chefs' expertise and dedication."

Contestants will devise a three-course lunch menu for four, comprising one hot and one cold canapé, a main course created from a regional breed of pork, and their interpretation of a traditional British pudding.

The initial top 40 will go forward to five semi-final cook-offs where they will create menus in front of a live audience and a panel of respected judges.

1: 12 March

Hotel & Catering Show, 11-12 March, Bournemouth International Centre
